Run by the Secretary of Media and Public Communications of Argentina, Télam is the national news agency established in April 14, 1945 under the name "Telenoticiosa Americana" under the Juan Domingo Perón administration.
Modeled after the Associated Press of the United States and Agence France Presse of France, Télam functions as the provider of 2800 subscribers for national and overseas news services, municipalities and provincial government offices.
The computation of expenses is part of the overall budget of the State of Argentina, although the agency also generated different revenues of its own from advertising and through the sale of its information service.
