In 1985, following a legal challenge from TDK over trademark infringement, TTK changed its name to TCL, which stands for Telephone Communication Limited.

TCL now stands for The Creative Life, the company's current slogan, in 2014.
TCL completed its assets reorganization and was split into TCL Industrial and the current TCL in April 2019, but the legal name of the current company was still to be "TCL Corporation" until it eventually changed to "TCL Technology Group Corporation" on 7 February 2020.
