ACSN – The Learning Channel

ACSN - 1980

Appalachian Community Service Network (an offshoot of the Appalachian Educational Satellite Project) was privatized in April 1980; ACSN relaunched its distance education service as a national cable network, then known as ACSN – The Learning Channel, in October of that year.

In January 1984, the network shortened its name to The Learning Channel.

1992–1998

TLC 1992

From 1992 to 1998, the company's full name "The Learning Channel" appeared beneath the logo, which is three squares with letters 'T', 'L' and 'C' on them.

1998–2006

In 1998, the channel began to distance itself from its original name, and instead began to advertise itself only as TLC while introducing the slogan "Life Unscripted". During this period, there was a significant shift in content, with most new programming being geared towards reality, drama and interior design shows.

2006–present

On March 27, 2006, the network launched a new look and promotional campaign, dropping the "Life Unscripted" tag and introducing the slogan "Live and learn" in an attempt to turn around the network's reliance on decorating shows and reality programming.
