The Turner Network Television name originated in 1982 for a sports syndication service owned by Turner Broadcasting. The service was used for two exhibition games organized by the NFL Players Association during the NFL strike in 1982, as well as for the first Goodwill Games.
1988–1995
The Turner Network Television cable network launched on October 3, 1988. Although it carried sports events as its namesake predecessor had done, initially, the TNT cable network primarily focused on general entertainment content, including classic and original made-for-cable films as well as classic Western, sitcom and drama series.

1995–2001
In 1995, TNT fully de-emphasized the “Turner Network Television” identity and identified strictly by its three-letter initialism. The introduction of this logo’s design, a revision of the ovular logo introduced in 1991, coincided with the launch of World Championship Wrestling (WCW)‘s newly-established flagship program WCW Monday Nitro.
On June 12, 2001, TNT underwent an extensive rebrand, which saw the introduction of a new logo designed by Trollbäck & Company. This logo was coincidental with the purchase of the channel's parent company by America Online.

In January 2016, TNT began slowly phasing in a new logo on social media and in promos. The design is a heavily modified variant of the 2001 logo, featuring a filled circle, and zoomed-in and fused together lettering. It was officially introduced on January 30 of that year, during the 22nd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.
