TV9 Kannada, branded on-air as Karnataka TV9 (Karnataka is the South Indian state where Kannada is largely spoken), is a Kannada-language TV news channel. It was launched on 22 June 2006.[1]

In 2009 the TV9 network launched the English-language News9, a second channel catering to Karnataka, and specifically its capital city of Bengaluru (formerly Bangalore). Other news channels with metropolitan-specific news coverage have shut down (particularly NDTV MetroNation, which covered the national capital of Delhi, and NDTV Hindu, which covered Chennai, another large South Indian city). Moreover, TV9's own TV9 Mumbai, which showed local city news in Hindi, was converted to the Marathi-language TV9 Marathi in 2012.
