TVNZ 1 was launched originally as NZBC. The first station to open was AKTV2 in Auckland, followed by CHTV3 (Christchurch), and WNTV1 (Wellington) in 1961, and DNTV2 (Dunedin) in 1962.

In 1975, NZBC was split into three new different companies; Radio New Zealand, Television One, and TV2
1980–1982
Television One and South Pacific Television companies merged into TVNZ and this is the Television One's first logo.
