Tata Sky is the largest Indian direct-to-home satellite TV provider, and one of the oldest. Launched in August 2006, it is jointly owned by Tata and the Star TV network. Its competitors are Airtel Digital TV, Sun Direct, Dish TV/D2h and the state-owned DD Free Dish.
Star was originally owned by 21st Century Fox and hence was a sister company of Sky. Though Sky was acquired by Comcast in 2018, Tata Sky remained with 21st Century Fox until 20 March 2019, when it (including Star TV) was acquired by The Walt Disney Company. It continues to licence the Sky brand and trademarks.
Tata Sky commenced operations in August 2006.
On 24 September 2016, shortly after its tenth anniversary in August 2016, the Tata Sky logo was refreshed with the Sky wordmark to match its former sister company Sky’s logo.
