On February 25, 2021, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that they would be reorganizing Japan Studio - which would result in the discontinuation of the name - with the remaining staff redirected to Team Asobi (a pre-existing & the final remaining division of Japan Studio being spunoff into its own studio, which would still be part of Sony Interactive Entertainment and PlayStation Studios).[1]
