Founded in 1993, Tele2 is a Swedish telecommunications company that was one of the first private telecom companies to challenge the monopoly of the state-owned Televerket (now Telia), the other being Europolitan (later Vodafone; now Telenor). In its home country, Tele2 competes with Telia, Telenor and Three.
Tele2 has since grown to be a multinational telecom company with operations in the Baltic countries. The Tele2 brand is also used in several countries where Tele2 sold its operations, notably Russia.
