In 1997, Tele 5 renamed itself to Telecinco, with the logo dropping the flower; the only Mediaset-owned channel to do so. In 2017, investigations by the press discovered that the circle in the logo is actually supposed to be an iris, with original sketches provided by Ángel Luis Sánchez having envisioned the circle and bottom of the number '5' as half of an eye.
