Since 11 April 1996, the Chilean public TV broadcaster Televisión Nacional de Chile operates regional programming for the Antofagasta region under the name Televisión Nacional de Chile Red Antofagasta (or simply the Red Antofagasta). In 2002, the Red Antofagasta opened the Centro Regional Calama, basically local offices in the city of Calama that operated the so-called Red Antofagasta-Calama for the El Loa Province (which depended on the main Red Antofagasta feed). The Red Antofagasta-Calama was closed in January 2016 due to the economic crisis the channel was facing then, being substituted by the main Red Antofagasta.
