Thameslink began as a Network SouthEast brand for the newly launched cross London services.
In 1994, Network SouthEast was divided into eleven separate companies, each of which would later be individually privatised. At this time, Thameslink was rebranded. Go-via was awarded the Thameslink franchise in 1997.
