On June 25, 2020, the band dropped "Dixie" from their name and renamed simply to "The Chicks". The band changed their name due to the ongoing protests against racism since George Floyd's death and the word "Dixie" references the Mason-Dixie line. The band received a blessing from a duo of the same name from New Zealand to share its name. As they changed their name, the band released a protest song entitled "March March" with a music video as a tribute to the social justice movements.
