After the acquisition of the Post by Curtis, it began emphasizing its hazy connection to the Pennsylvania Gazette, a publication founded in 1728 and famously operated by Benjamin Franklin. Besides a new byline displaying this founding year, and jumping from “Volume 77” to “Volume 170”, January 29, 1898 also saw the adoption of a new layout and look for the Post, inspired by Colonial-era printing.
