The World Tonight premiered on November 21, 1966 on ABS-CBN's DZXL-TV Channel 9, with Hal Bowie (who later left the newscast soon after due to health reasons) and Henry Halasan served as news anchors. However, the newscast abruptly ended on September 22, 1972 due to martial law declaration brought by President Ferdinand Marcos, which resulted the forced shutdown of ABS-CBN. There are no surviving archives of the newscast during this era.
