2011–2013[]

Tizen was founded by Samsung, The Linux Foundation, Panasonic Mobile and several mobile manufacturers and telcos after Nokia abandoned the MeeGo project.

In 2013, Samsung merged its Bada operating system into Tizen.

2013–present[]

BETTER LOGO NEEDED

In 2014, Samsung unveiled its first Tizen-based smartwatch called Samsung Gear 2, with a software update for existing Galaxy Gear users (based on Tizen) was also released. Later in 2015, they unveiled its first Tizen-based smartphone called Samsung Z1 and the Tizen OS is also used on Smart TVs, replacing its old Smart TV platform called Orsay OS.

After Samsung stopped using Tizen OS on its smartphones in 2017 and on smartwatches in 2021, Tizen continues to be used in its smart TVs, smart monitors, commercial displays and Family Hub smart fridges.

In 2021, Samsung unveiled the Powered by Tizen branding as it is being used on smart TVs made by other TV manufacturers after the announcements that they're started to license its Tizen TV platform to other TV manufacturers such as Loewe, Akai, RCA (European countries only), Bauhn and Linsar.

This was also used by Samsung for 2023 TV models until it was replaced by Samsung Tizen OS branding.
