The Travel Channel launched on February 1, 1987, under the ownership of [[Trans World Airlines]]. The name was derived from travel-related filler programming broadcast on premium cable channel [[Home Theater Network]]. TWA purchased the rights to the Travel Channel name from HTN owner [[Westinghouse Broadcasting Company|Group W Satellite Communications]] in 1986, and the Travel Channel took over HTN's satellite transponder position after that network ceased operations in January 1987. This logo was used before [[Discovery Communications]] bought the channel.
