The Olympic mascots were revealed on 28 September 2004. Their names are Neve and Gliz. Neve represents snow while Gliz represents ice. They also were popular with Italian children and adults before the Games. The Paralympic mascot was named Aster and was introduced on 10 March 2005. Aster is a snowflake that represents the spirit of exalting the participants athletic results rather than their disabilities. All three mascots were designed by Pedro Albuquerque.
