Twix was first introduced in the United Kingdom in 1967, albeit under the name Raider. It later started being sold in the rest of Europe. It was introduced in West Germany and Austria in 1976, and in the United States in 1979 as "Twix".
The name has been intermittently revived for advertising campaigns (in 2009, 2013, 2015, 2019 and 2023).

In 1991, the Raider name was phased out in favour of the worldwide "Twix" name instead. This change was not made until 2000 in Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden and Turkey (see below).
