Lance Wyman's flag-in-motion design was chosen in a competition by the American Revolution Bicentennial Administration. However due to his residency in Mexico at the time and lack of a US-based office, this logo would soon be passed up by the ARBA.

This mark, designed by Bruce Blackburn (later the creator of the 1975 NASA "worm" logo), debuted on a series of postage stamps in 1971.
