2011–2021, 2023–present[]
Canonical's Ubuntu Linux operating system has been using Unity as the default environment since 2011, when they released Ubuntu 11.04. Unity is built by the Ubuntu team.
In 2018, Unity (in Ubuntu) was replaced with GNOME, and thus a community-driven flavor, Ubuntu Unity, was released in 2020 with 20.04 LTS.
Unity continued to receive updates until 2021, but got brought back with version 22.10 of Ubuntu Unity, after that Ubuntu Unity is considered an official Ubuntu flavor by Canonical. It also recieves updates once again starting with Version 7.7 of Unity.
