VH1 UK, together with VH1 Germany, was first launched on 10 October 1994, as an alternative to the youth-orientated MTV.

In October 2018, VH1 UK adopted the on-screen graphics of VH1 Italy. Idents continued to use the previous logo.

The channel was shut down on 7 January 2020 and it was replaced by MTV Classic for Virgin Media UK viewers. The last programme to be shown on the channel is series 6 and episode 12 of "Are You the One?".
