VTV4 is a Vietnamese state-owned international television channel for Overseas Vietnamese, which is owned-and-operated by Vietnam Television. It tested broadcasting in September 1995. But in 1998, it was officially launched on both Measat 1 and Thaicom 3 (coverage in both Asia and Europe) and as a programme for compatriots far from home and friends around the world. Starting in 2000, it broadcasts on Galaxy 25 (or Telstar 5 and Intelsat Americas 5, coverage in North America).

On 31 December 2012, the corners of the logo became rounded.
On 31 October 2022, VTV4 and the other channels began to remove the HD letter, after the launch of VTV Can Tho (formerly VTV6).
On 30 July 2024, VTV4, along with VTV1, VTV2, VTV3 and VTV Can Tho (during broadcast of VTV Cup Ferroli), began to replace the font of their clock screen bugs to Tahoma.
