Vodafone Idea, operating as Vi, is one of the four major Indian mobile network operators, along with Airtel, Jio and BSNL/MTNL. It was formed on 30 August 2018 after the merger of the Vodafone brand in India, owned by the British Vodafone Group, and Idea Cellular, owned by Aditya Birla Group. Both the Vodafone and Idea brands continued until 7 September 2020, when they were retired in favour of the new Vi brand (pronounced we).

Vodafone and Idea Cellular merged on 30 August 2018, creating what was at the time the largest telecom company in India by subscribers (since overtaken by Jio), and among the largest in the world. However, both consumer brands were retained. As such, there was no proper corporate logo, but only a wordmark set in Vodafone’s corporate typeface. The below logo, with the logos of both consumer brands, was also in use as a corporate logo.

A new unified brand, entitled Vi, was unveiled on 7 September 2020, replacing the Vodafone and Idea brands. The brand identity was created by the London office of Wolff Olins and the advertising campaign by Ogilvy India.
Like competitor Jio, Vi uses a custom-made font in its corporate identity, replacing Vodafone’s corporate font and the Interstate font that was used by Idea Cellular.
