Vistara is a full-service airline in India that was established in 2014 as a joint venture between the Tata Group and Singapore Airlines. It is Tata’s second airline venture after AirAsia India, which was also launched that year.
In October 2021, the Tata Group won a bid to take back control of national flag carrier Air India, which it owned until 1953, from the Indian government. The acquisition of Air India and Air India Express was completed on 27 January 2022, and these will co-exist with Vistara and AirAsia India for the time being, with only Alliance Air remaining with the government.
