This logo was first introduced to the Russians when McDonald's opened its first Russian branch in Pushkin Square, Moscow on 31 January 1990 which was part of the Soviet Union at the time.

2006–2022
As part of the first restaurant redesign for decades, called 'Forever Young', the logo was redesigned in 2006.
On March 8, 2022, McDonald's announced that they would be temporarily suspending operations due to the ongoing invasion of Ukraine. As a result, it had halted operations of roughly 850 restaurants in Russia.
On May 16, 2022, following the initally temporary shutdown of Russian restaurants, McDonald's announced that it will permanently leave Russia after 30 years, and start to sell its restaurants. McDonald's claimed that owning a business in Russia was "no longer tenable" or consistent with its values. [1]
