On 10 June 2009, Three Australia merged with Vodafone Australia, thus making their former shareholders, Hutchison Whampoa and Vodafone each owned half of the new company named Vodafone Hutchison Australia. The Three brand was finally phased out in 2011 in favor of Vodafone.

In August 2018, VHA and TPG Telecom announced their intention to merge. Initially rejected by the ACCC, the plan was given permission to proceed via a February 2020 Federal Court of Australia ruling. Effective 29 June 2020, Vodafone Hutchison Australia Pty Limited was renamed TPG Telecom Limited. The merger retains both the Vodafone and TPG brands.
