WBRA-TV signed on August 1, 1967. In 1972, channel 15 launched a satellite station, WSVN-TV (channel 47) in Norton to serve the Tri-Cities market. It was originally an NET station before its conversion to PBS in 1972.

Channel 15 received a new logo in 1981 after WMSY–TV (channel 52) in Marion signed on. On March 14, 1983, WSVN-TV was renamed to WSBN-TV which would allow then-NBC affiliate WCKT (channel 7, currently a Fox affiliate as WSVN) in Miami, Florida to change its callsign three months later.

In 2014, Blue Ridge PBS' Tri-Cities-area stations rebranded to Southwest Virginia Public Television. In 2017, the SWVAPT stations were shuttered.
