WCGV-TV originally signed on as an independent television station on UHF channel 24 on March 24, 1980.

The Fox affiliation moved from WCGV-TV to then-CBS affiliate WITI in 1994, following a deal with New World Communications. WCGV became independent again until it became one of the charter UPN affiliates on January 16, 1995.

WCGV UPN TRANSITION

This was a transitional logo briefly used during WCGV´s last few months with UPN before MyNetworkTV was launched. This revived its 1984 '24' numeral.

WCGV's owner, Sinclair Broadcast Group, successfully sold the station's UHF broadcast spectrum in 2017. On January 8, 2018, WCGV's signal was shut down, with its programming and virtual channel position (24) moving to a subchannel of sister station WVTV.

WVTV-DT2 reverted back to its former WCGV-TV call letters on May 30, 2022, although they technically remain a digital subchannel of WVTV.
