WCIU-TV became an affiliate of The CW on September 1, 2019, after it moved the affiliation from MyNetworkTV O&O WPWR-TV, in turn, carried it secondarily after WGN-TV dropped the affiliation in 2016. "The U" branding moved to WMEU-CD, simulcast on WCIU's second subchannel, on the same day.

"The U" branding was reintroduced to WCIU's main channel with an updated logo on August 1, 2024, one month ahead of the CW affiliation returning to WGN-TV on September 1.
