On August 19, 1996, WCIV swapped network affiliations with WCBD-TV and became an ABC affiliate. This affiliation switch, which occured due to a group-wide ABC affiliation deal with the station's owner at the time (Allbritton Communications), saw NBC return to WCBD-TV for the first time since 1962.
On October 15, 2011, WCIV started broadcasting their newscasts in high-definition and introduced a slightly updated version of it's logo.
