WWDT Channel 4 (1947)

WDIV-TV first signed on the air as WWDT on October 23, 1946 for one day of demonstrative programming. Regular programming commenced on March 4, 1947, becoming the first TV station in Detroit, Michigan, and the tenth in the United States.

This logo design reflected the station's NBC affiliation using a design and color scheme similar to NBC's "Trapezoid N" logo that was also introduced in 1976.

WDIV-TV[]

On July 22, 1978, WWJ-TV changed its callsign to the current WDIV-TV after then-owner Evening News Association traded the station to Post-Newsweek Stations for WTOP-TV in Washington, D.C. out of concerns that the FCC forbade TV and radio stations in the same market but with different ownership groups from sharing the same callsigns.
