1966–1968

WFLD first signed on in 1966 as an independent station owned by Field Communications, a subsidiary of Field Enterprises, then the parent company of the Chicago Sun-Times.

1968–1973

Kaiser Broadcasting took control of WFLD in 1973.

1978–1983

WFLD 1979

Field Communications regained control of WFLD in 1978, when Kaiser Broadcasting was merged with Field Enterprises. This logo design was shared with other Field independent stations.

1983–1986

Metromedia took control of the company in 1983.

1986–1987

WFLD FOX32

In 1986, Metromedia sold its stations to News Corporation, who then launched the Fox television network, with WFLD serving as part of the backbone of this new network.

In 1993, WFLD changed its branding from Fox 32 to Fox Chicago. Its sister station in Philadelphia WTXF-TV adopted the same practice three years later until 2003.

This logo branding, currently in use by most of the Fox O&O stations, is based on the Fox News Channel logo.

After almost 20 years of branding as Fox Chicago under some capacity, WFLD reverted to its former Fox 32 branding on November 12, 2012. The logo was updated to fall in line with its sister Fox owned-and-operated stations as a result.
