WJXX was signed on in February 1997 by Allbritton Communications Company after WBSG-TV in Brunswick, Georgia (now WPXC-TV) switched to ABC, taking over local station WJKS-TV (now WCWJ). WJXX was a satellite station; it enabled viewers in Jacksonville proper to watch the output of WBSG.
