WJXX was signed on in February 1997 by the Allbritton Communications Company after WBSG-TV in Brunswick, Georgia (channel 21, now WPXC-TV) switched to ABC, taking over local station WJKS-TV (channel 17, now WCWJ). WJXX was a satellite station; it enabled viewers in Jacksonville proper to watch the output of WBSG.
1997–2000[]
2000–2007[]
In 2000, Allbritton sold WJXX to Gannett, now Tegna, forming a duopoly with WTLV. At the same time, WBSG was sold to Paxson Communications, and joined PAX, making WJXX the sole ABC station in the area.
2007–2017[]
In 2007, WJXX and WTLV received similar logos.
