This article is about the Fox affiliate in Providence, Rhode Island. For the defunct television station in Boston that formerly used the WNAC callsign, see WNAC-TV (Boston).
WNET signed on the air on April 5, 1954 as an affiliate of ABC with secondary affiliations with CBS and the DuMont Television Network. WNET signed off the air on July 10, 1955.
The callsign (without the -TV suffix) was later reused on a TV station in Newark, New Jersey—New York City, New York State on October 1, 1970, when WNDT renamed itself to WNET as it merged with National Educational Television (NET) which got replaced by the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS).

WNAC-TV originally signed on the air on September 5, 1981, as WSTG-TV, an independent station on UHF channel 64. It was however, not listed in the TV Guide or local TV listings until late 1984.
This logo was also used from time to time as an on-screen bug/logo displayed on the right lower panel of the tv screen and displayed for 10 seconds.

In 1986, WSTG-TV changed its callsign to WNAC-TV, which was formerly used on former-CBS affiliate WNAC-TV (VHF channel 7, now independent station WHDH) in Boston. It became one of the original charter Fox affiliates on October 9, 1986.

This logo design was also used by then sister-station WVRN-TV in Richmond, Virginia at the time.
This three-dimensional logo was WNAC's first official logo to incorporate the 1987 Fox logo with the WNAC branding in the pedestal. The background is a view of Providence, Rhode Island. The "FOX" was smaller, and "64" was shifted to the right, but most of the time were never used in the logo and it appeared without the searchlights.

In 1990, a flat version replaced the more realistic previous logo, which changed the "64" from purple to gold, the spotlights were now used all the time. This was in fact a localized version of the 1990 "It's on FOX" campaign, in which the bulk of the affiliates used their own variations of the then-network logo.
