During this logo's run, WNJU and the rest of the Telemundo network were bought out by NBC in 2002. This made WNJU a sister station to NBC's flaship station, WNBC.
WNJU, as part of Telemundo's rebrand, would drop its channel number and identified itself as "Telemundo Nueva York". Making WNJU only station serving New York City to not refer to itself with its channel number during this period.
However, in January, the logo was used concurrently with the "Telemundo NY" until mid-January when the "Telemundo 47" variant became permanent.
