In 1990, WNNE was purchased by Heritage Media, which converted the station into a semi-satellite of Burlington, Vermont NBC station WPTZ.

On August 21, 2016, WNNE dropped references to its UHF channel 31 allocation, adopting the "NBC 5" branding used by parent station WPTZ.
2018–2024[]
WNNE became a CW affiliate on July 22, 2018, taking over the affiliation from WPTZ-DT2, which ceded its channel space to WNNE through a channel sharing agreement.
