Proposed logo, had WIIC-TV signed on with CBS affiliation. Due to sign-on delays, CBS chose to affiliate with KDKA-TV instead, and WIIC-TV joined NBC upon signing on.

WIIC-TV became WPXI on April 20, 1981. The station introduced a new logo to go with the callsign change.

This logo is similar to the one used by ChilevisiĆ³n in Chile between 1980 and 1991 (though that logo had its lines put in a TV screen instead of a circle) as well as CBS-turned-ABC affiliate WHAS-TV in Louisville, Kentucky between from 1982 to 2006.
