The New York Times Company, then-owners of WQXR, traded the 96.3 frequency to Univision Communications, who then sold its 105.9 frequency. In addition, New York Public Radio, the owners of WNYC (AM 820) and WNYC-FM (93.9 FM), brought the call letters, its music library, and website of WQXR as well as the FCC license and equipment of 105.9. Both stations traded frequencies on October 8, 2009 at 8 PM. WCAA was moved to 96.3 and became WXNY-FM, while WQXR moved to 105.9 and became a non-commercial station.
