WSB-TV originally signed on the air on September 29, 1948 on VHF channel 8 as a primary NBC affiliate and secondary ABC affiliate; it is the flagship station of Cox Media Group since its inception.
On September 30, 1951, WSB-TV switched to VHF channel 2 and the complete affiliation with NBC; giving to WLTV channel 8 the ABC affiliate, which switched to channel 11 and changed the call letters two years later.
During this logo's run, WSB-TV switched back to ABC on September 1st, 1980 with WXIA-TV.
Even though the logo isn't currently being used, the "2" in the logo is still being used.
