WSEC—licensed to Jacksonville, Illinois, and serving as the PBS station for Springfield—signed on August 11, 1984 as part of the Convocom educational television consortium serving Western and Central Illinois (which included WTVP/Peoria and WQPT-TV/Moline). The station’s call signs were WJPT-TV from 1984–1989. The station's programming is relayed on two of the five former Convocom stations, WMEC-TV in Macomb (signed on October 1, 1984, originally called WIUM-TV between 1984–1989) and WQEC in Quincy (signed on March 9, 1985), which converted into satellites of WSEC in 2004.
