In 2005, WSWG was sold to Gray Television. During December of that same year, WSWG announced that it would affiliate with CBS. Initially, the station was going to be on a digital subchannel of WSWG, but due to the announcement of The CW the following year, Gray instead would switch channel 44 from UPN to CBS.
on August 16, 2018, Gray would sell WSWG to Marquee Broadcasting, owner of WSST-TV (channel 22). This was part of multiple divestments regarding Gray's acquisition of Raycom Media (owner of NBC/ABC affiliate WALB (channel 10) in Albany).
