WCGV-TV launched as an independent television station on March 24, 1980.
1984–1993 and 1994-1995
WCGV's owner, Sinclair Broadcast Group, successfully sold the station's UHF broadcast spectrum in 2017. On January 8, 2018, WCGV's signal was shut down, with its programming and virtual channel position (24) moving to a subchannel of sister station WVTV.
