The tournament was relaunched in 2006 as a SmackDown special.
In 2008, the tournament aired during Raw.

The 2010 tournament aired on Raw once again.

WWE announced on April 26, 2015 that King of the Ring would return on WWE Network.
Between August to September 2019, the tournament was held once again between Raw & SmackDown Live.
2021[]
Just like in 2019, the tournament was held between Raw and SmackDown performers. The winner of the tournament (Xavier Woods) would wear the crown at the Crown Jewel pay-per-view.
WWE King and Queen of the Ring[]
2024[]
On April 7, 2024, announced another return of the event, now titled King and Queen of the Ring. This was held in Saudi Arabia on May 25, 2024.
**Originally, On April 13, 2023, WWE announced that King and Queen of the Ring would be held on May 27, 2023, but due to a partial event and the introduction of a new World Heavyweight Championship title by final round would be added put event was changed to Night of Champions instead, but held on the same day.**
