WYVN

1991–1993

X240-9Fd

WYVN first started out as a Fox affiliate in 1991. The station was troublesome with money, and ran out of it not long after it was launched. A main reason why was the fact they had overspend on the news department. The station also was on cable, however, it was on a high channel number, which limited its audience. The signal of the station would sometimes fluctuate between black & white and color, since the transmitter equipment was poor quality. In 1992, a FOX employee was tipped about this issue. The employee traveled to Martinsburg, and was horrified by an airing of The Simpsons episode "Lisa the Beauty Queen" in black and white. The station's response was "we don't even have an engineer." FOX immediately pulled the affiliation, and the station went dark shortly after. The station had lost so much money, the owner was forced to file for bankruptcy.

The station later became a PAX affiliate in 1998. In 2002, the station couldn't afford to pay its 5 staff members, so it became a satellite of WPXW-TV so it could only have two employees to pay.
