Wal-Mart Alternate Logo (1970s-1980s)
Designer:  Unknown
Typography:  Antique Olive Black
Launched:  Q4 1979

Learning from the results of their “Project ‘79” experiment in retail design, more of Wal-Mart’s generic products received a makeover in late 1979. The new packaging extensively used the Antique Olive typeface and switched out the western-style logo for “Wal-Mart” in plain text.

Walmart (1991) (Prototype)

In 1991, Wal-Mart rolled out several prototype locations using a logo with a star instead of a hyphen and an entirely different typeface. This logo was only used on storefronts (all now closed or remodeled) and a small amount of in-store branding. It remained at the Palmdale, California, store until it relocated to a newly constructed supercenter in 2005, having been officially retired.
