Warner Communications
1972–1990
Warner Communications Inc. was created in 1972 when Kinney National Company was split up due to a financial scandal over its parking operations and changed its name to reflect its ownership of Warner Bros.
This logo was created by Saul Bass. It is a stylized W and was eventually adopted by many of its sudsibiaries.
Warner Communications created a joint venture with American Express (Warner-Amex Satellite Entertainment Company), which owned Nickelodeon, VH1, MTV and The Movie Channel, all of which now make up the foundation of Viacom.
In 1987, it was announced that Warner Communications and Time Inc. were to merge and three years later in January 1990, Time Warner was formed as a result of a merger between two companies. This company was known as AOL Time Warner from January 11, 2001 to October 15, 2003 but is known as Warner Media since June 15, 2018 due to the AOL merger and AT&T acquisition, respectively.
