In 1998, Wells Fargo merged with Norwest Corporation. While Norwest was the surviving corporation, they adopted the Wells Fargo name and moved to the San Francisco Wells Fargo headquarters.
Wells Fargo would later acquire Wachovia on December 31, 2008.
