West Point Pepperell was founded by the 1965 merger of West Point Manufacturing Company and Pepperell Manufacturing Company. WPP acquired textile company J.P. Stevens & Co. in May 1988 for $1.2 billion.

On September 20, 1993, it was announced that “Stevens” would replace Pepperell in the firm’s name. The company filed for bankruptcy protection in 2003.

WestPoint Stevens was renamed WestPoint Home after being purchased by Carl Icahn and emerging from bankruptcy in August 2005.
