This logo was introduced in 1974 by Westpac’s predecessor the Bank of New South Wales, commonly called The Wales. The red stylised W has since become one of Australia's most recognisable brands.

The Westpac Business Corporation was formed in 1982 as a merger of the Bank of New South Wales and the Commercial Bank of Australia. This logo features the stylized W and text which reads 'estpac'; the name is a portmanteau of Western Pacific.

By 2010, the stylised W had become recognisable to most Australians, so the bank dropped the full 'Westpac' text from promotional material.
